25 Oct President’s Message – November, 2013
I was driving home from the gym recently and began thinking about unanticipated pleasures. I recently traveled to Boston to attend my 50th nursing school reunion and had a surprisingly wonderful time. I had been on the fence about attending until a long-time friend and classmate encouraged me to come. How fortunate I was that I listened to her recommendation; something I do not always do. The pleasure of seeing old (literally and figuratively) friends in all stages of repair but still essentially themselves reminded me to cherish the time that we have together, a topic I have mentioned before in these notes.
That brings me to the topic of my final newsletter musings. On November 17, I will hand over my virtual gavel to incoming President Joe Mottola, who I know will be a skillful leader. I do this with some ambivalence, since it has been a great pleasure to serve as your President for the past year. I have learned much about the Village, met many remarkable people, and collaborated with a range of energetic teams beginning with, but not ending with, the Board of Directors. I am ever struck by the commitment that our residents have to the Village. So many of our neighbors call or email to report both problems and pleasures that I feel as if we have 1000 pairs of eyes watching out for our mutual well-being. Thanks to every one of you for your concern with and attention to our Village’s needs.
I hope that I will see many of you at the Annual Meeting (November 17 from 1-3 pm). By then, our shredding/fire extinguisher event and yard waste pick up will have concluded; some of the road work planned by the NC Department of Transportation may have begun; and the holidays will be upon us. As you make your way through the rest of 2013, please continue to enjoy the many pleasures that our community makes possible. It has truly been a pleasure to work with you.
