02 May President’s Message – May 2014
The Fearrington community is losing some of its longstanding citizen assets this month as Joy and Stephen Metelits move away from Fearington. Joy and Stephen have lived in what we like to call our historic district for 35 and 1/2 years and are, as far as we know, the couple who has lived in Fearrington Village for the longest period of time, dating back to the late 1970s.
It is noteworthy in itself that residents would stay here that long, but Joy and Stephen have also been exemplary citizens for all that time. Stephen was the third serving President of the fledgling Fearrington Homeowners Association and both Stephen and Joy have been heavily involved in community activities for all these years, with a particular emphasis on emergency coordination and communication. Most recently, Joy has been an enthusiastic member of the Briar Chapel Communications Committee which advises the Board on the impact that our large neighbor to the northwest is having on our community and its environment.
As Stephen and Joy move on to their next stage in life, I’d like to wish them well and thank them for being models of formal and informal community involvement for such a long period of time and for their valuable service to the community.
Joe Mottola, FHA President
