Welcome From the Fearrington Tennis and Pickleball Association

Welcome From the Fearrington Tennis and Pickleball Association

As a Fearrington or Galloway Ridge resident, you are invited to join the Fearrington Tennis and Pickleball Association (FTPA).  Tennis and pickleball are played on the tennis courts in the Creekwood Playground at the end of Benchmark in the Historic District.  There are 2 tennis courts which convert quickly to 4 pickleball courts.

There has been an active tennis program in Fearrington Village for many years with men’s, women’s and mixed doubles play.  New players are welcome!  There are also plenty of opportunities for singles play and practice. A hitting wall for both tennis and pickleball practice has recently been added to the courts.

Pickleball is the fastest growing racquet sport in the USA, especially in the 55+ age group.  It is easy to learn!  Usually after a couple of introductory sessions, someone can start playing in matches.  Pickleball is played with a paddle and a wiffle ball on a court ½ the size of a tennis court.  Therefore, there is less stress on joints, especially elbows and knees.  As a bonus, pickleball is played outside like tennis so it provides the benefit of fresh air and sunshine.

When you’re ready to learn more about pickleball, please come to the orientation class, which is held every Sunday at 10:00 am at the courts.  Newcomers will be briefed on the rules and techniques of the game and given an opportunity to practice the sport, with appropriate coaching.

To become a member, there is a one-time initiation fee of $75 and annual dues are $75.  For further information, for tennis, contact Jim Rudbeck at mjrudbeck@gmail.com; for pickleball, contact Art Gonzales at artgon@verizon.net.
